The Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF), the charitable arm of TRTA, recently awarded 30 grants to Texas public school teachers. We have asked the recipients to share a photo and short statement with us so they can show their appreciation to TRTF and share some good news! Here is a note from Shannon Hodges, a Kindergarten ESL teacher at Carlisle Elementary:
"I am so grateful that you chose my grant. The funds will purchase reading materials that are engaging and level appropriate to complete my listening center. Everyone will benefit no matter their reading ability. My students are English Language Learners and it is essential that they hear what a good reader sounds like every day.
In addition, the funds will purchase items to help my ELLs with vocabulary, conversation starters, sight word games, word building activities, jumbo magnetic letters, and photo cards. All items will have countless benefits for each student in grasping that sounds have a purpose. I am excited to say that ALL the grant funds will go toward teaching my students to Hear It, See It, and Read It!
